Silver Arts Award in Nail Art – For Teens and Near Teens (Online course)
At Nail it and Thrive we offer a specially designed course and qualification in Nail Art for Home Ed Teens and Near-teens.
Hi I’m Michelle, a home-ed single mum of a neuro-divergent teen. I designed this course when pretty much the only thing that would engage my daughter in learning was nails and nail art. It honestly changed her life. She gained energy, enthusiasm, confidence and leadership skills. I am now sharing this experience with other home ed families….and loving seeing the creativity of teenagers in our home ed community!
The course is created around the nationally recognised Silver Arts Award qualification provided by Trinity College London. There are no exams. Students are guided through the process of creating a portfolio by completing worksheets after every session. This involves, for example, setting a nail art challenge for themselves, doing research and inserting photos of their work. They also research nail art events and look at how people become nail artists. Additionally they complete a nail art leadership project, such as creating a series of online nail art tutorials or doing a nail art exhibition.
Assessment is via the completion of worksheets, which together make up a “portfolio”. I’ve designed it to be a totally flexible course – students can either complete it via 100% pre-recorded sessions OR they can opt to join the first four sessions live. Either way, the course is delivered fully online.
We periodically offer free live trial sessions online (via zoom). Alternatively people can request to join a trial by requesting a link to a recording of a trial session.
The course is SEND-friendly and scribes are permitted, if required, for the portfolio completion.
The Arts Award is a well-respected qualification delivered in many institutions up and down the country, from theatre schools to dance and drama schools. Colleges recognise the qualification as it is on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). Parents and teens should enquire with their local colleges whether they will accept it as part of entry requirements.
For the equivalent of less than £1 per day, students can receive the tuition for the course, gain 1-1 feedback and guidance on their portfolio, have their work marked and be entered for the award with Trinity College London.
