I was home educated throughout my own childhood and have been working as a 1:1 private maths tutor with home educated children and young people for over a decade.  I tutor maths online at all levels up to and including GCSE/iGCSE. I also have experience of tutoring for functional skills qualifications. My approach is supportive and playful, with a focus on enjoyment, discovery and confidence building.

I have experience of working with many neurodiverse learners (including autism, PDA, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, DCD, dysgraphia). I have also worked with learners with particular anxiety around maths or academic learning in general.

I often focus on helping learners to understand the foundations of mathematical concepts and how they interconnect, so that they can rely on their own understanding and adapt it to new topics, rather than having to rely on learning the rules afresh for each new topic. I find this can make maths both less intimidating and more enjoyable. The extent to which I do this and the way I go about it varies greatly depending on the individual learner and what works well for them. My sessions are varied and can include puzzles, collaborative challenges, conversation, worksheets, exam style questions, past papers, stories, interactive visual manipulatives and many different sorts of games.
