Online Art Lessons for Home-Educated Children (Ages 11–14)

Does your child enjoy art but often feel stuck, unsure what to draw, or lacking confidence?

I support home-educating families by providing structured, step-by-step art lessons that build real skills — without pressure, comparison, or you needing to plan anything yourself.

I’m Jo, a PGCE-qualified UK art teacher, and I created Arts Instruct to help children move from “I can’t draw” to creating artwork they feel genuinely proud of.

Each project is carefully designed around key artistic principles such as colour, tone, composition and technique, helping children understand how to create, not just what to make.

🎨 What makes Arts Instruct different?

✔️ Clear structure without school-style pressure
✔️ Builds confidence, even for reluctant or perfectionist learners
✔️ Encourages independence and idea development
✔️ Uses simple, low-cost materials you likely already have
✔️ Supports progression towards KS3 and GCSE skills

💬 A common worry I hear from parents: “I want to support my child’s creativity… but I don’t know if I’m doing it right.”

That’s exactly where Arts Instruct helps.

Jo

Hi, I’m Jo - a PGCE-qualified UK art teacher and the creator of Arts Instruct.

I work with home-educated children aged 11–14, helping them build confidence in art and develop real skills, without pressure, perfection or feeling like they’re “doing it wrong”.

Over the years, I’ve seen the same thing again and again: children who enjoy art but get stuck, frustrated, or lose confidence simply because they don’t know where to start - and parents who want to support them, but don’t want to turn art into a stressful subject.

That’s exactly why I created Arts Instruct.

My lessons guide students step by step, breaking skills down in a clear, encouraging way so they can work independently, feel successful, and actually enjoy the process of creating. We focus on drawing, painting and visual art skills that genuinely help them progress, not quick crafts or rushed outcomes.

As a parent myself, I understand how important it is for learning to be structured but flexible, easy to fit into home education, and realistic in terms of time, space and materials.

My aim is simple: to make art feel doable, enjoyable and worthwhile for your child - and to reassure you that they’re learning properly, even if art isn’t your subject.
