My name is Lynne, I am a qualified teacher and tutor with a BA in Photography and hold an enhanced DBS.
I started my teaching journey in 2020 and because of numerous Lockdowns, began teaching online.
My child is home educated too so I fully understand about Home Education but also am on the same level as most parents as I understand from an Home Educating point about how each child is different.
I currently teach a lovely group of youngsters online. The youngest is 11 and the eldest is 17 years. I offer lessons for Ages 10+ and Ages 14yrs +.
Within my learners some have additional needs: Anxiety, Autism, Lack of Confidence, Trauma from School or simply just always been Home Educated. It is a safe comfortable environment, my priority is each and every child’s wellbeing do in between the learning stuff we will chat about what the youngsters did that weekend, plans for the next week etc. I know my learners interests, all about their pets, siblings, holidays etc and this is important as this is all about knowing my learners and that they are not just numbers within a class.
Talking of numbers, I like to keep my classes small – generally 8 max in any class. That way they get the attention they deserved and I make sure that everyone is acknowledged in every lesson. What’s more learning should be enjoyable too. So often I might tell awful jokes and funny stories and I totally encourage my learners to do so and build confidence.
My next lessons start later this week but I will start another class next week if there is sufficient demand.
You don’t need to own a digital camera in the early stages. A phone or IPad, anything that takes photos is fine.
At the end of each block, I like to include a Kahoot quiz, this is great for testing that learning has taken place but I always put some fun questions in there too.
I am looking to add another 2 classes to my weekly schedule. I currently only teach 3 classes a week, mainly because I wanted to see how the classes worked teaching a practical subject online. Plus I believe in quality over quantity. I also offer One to One classes if this is more suitable to your child.
Sometimes I will have a friend chat online/messenger with parents who might be new to home education or even just those that have new to share and to show my support to their families.
I look welcome to seeing some new faces onboard. If you can’t make the January Start, I will be opening up another block later in February that you can join then.
